Nephelium: Dubai Death Metal

When I was in Dubai a couple of years ago, I tried to gauge the state of the local rock scene.  I found a few bands, but the best I found was an extreme metal band from neighbouring Abu Dhabi.  Turns out I was looking in the wrong place.  I should have started in Toronto

The two core members of Nephelium are from Dubai but have been based (of course) in Toronto for the last decade. They have a debute record called Coils of Entrophy coming on February 7.

So what does UAE death metal sound like?  Try the first single from the album:  "Merciless Annihilation." And yes, the track lives up to its title.  Imagine listening to this while crusing to the beach on Jumeirah Road.
