In 1970, Ray Davies of the Kinks was told he had to re-record a line in the song "Lola" because it included the words "Coca-Cola." The BBC had a policy of not playing songs that included brand names, so "Lola" would never get a spin if those words remained. That's why there's also a version of the song where "Coca-Cola" becomes "cherry cola."
This brings me to today's lyric controversy. I wonder what the people at PepsiCo will make of this.
Lana Del Rey's Born to Die--The Paradise Edition (due next week) features a song called "Cola." It includes the lyric "My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola/ My eyes are wide like cherry pie."
In an interview, she explained it thusly: "I have a Scottish boyfriend, and that's just what he says."
Maybe a trip the gynecologist is in order...?
