And the Biggest-Selling Canadian Artists of 2012 Are...

NewCanadianMusic.ca offers this helpful list of the top-selling Canadian artists of the year.  Take note that these represent just domestic sales.

1.  Sans Attendre, Celine Dion:  Even though it was released just six weeks ago, it's already sold more than 240,000 copies.

2.  Christmas, Michael Buble:  Yes, this is a 2011 release, but it sold another 240,000 copies this year putting it just behind Celine. The two-year total is around 640,000.

3.  My World 2.0, Justin Bieber:  He had to be here somewhere, didn't he?  This record sold just less than Buble's.

The top-selling download? "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepson, of course.  More than 560,000 Canadians paid to download it.

New Canadian Music also lists all the Canadian releases that qualified for various sales awards this year. And with more than 40 artists on the list, that says something about the strength of our domestic music industry.

How did Canucks do in America?  You might be surprised at how far above our weight class Canadians punch.  For example, did you know that both Rush and Nickelback have sold more albums in the US than KISS?  Or that Bryan Adams beats Bob Marley?  Or that Sarah McLachlan kicks the ass of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young?

But here's my favourite:  John Lennon sold a lot of records in the US, but Anne Murray sold more.
