More Music from the Inbox: 20 April 2012 (With a Nod to Record Store Day)

I've been living on airplanes and out of suitcases for the past couple of weeks, something that will continue well into June.  Fortunately, I've got dudes like Brent Chittenden to help me sort through all the new music that comes into my inbox every day.  Please enjoy--and yes, keep the music submissions coming. - AC

Artist: Cobra Ramone

Album: Cobra Ramone

Her press bio is a little... um... large but the music is pretty solid. A bit grimy with a very clean vocal style makes for some rather interesting listening.

Sounds Like: A dirty rock Teegan and Sara.

Artist: Prozak

Album: Paranormal

As I’ve stated in the past, I’m not a huge hip hop guy but I must admit, Prozak (not to be confused with the Canadian animated dance group) got my attention. The album goes all over the rap landscape from straight up hip hop to rap metal (one song boasts an appearance from Slipknot DJ, Sid). Worth a listen.

Sounds Like: A bit of all genres of hip hop.

Artist: JuiceheaD & Oskana Popstar

Album: "Waiting Room" (7 inch single)

A rather interesting cover of the Fugazi classic, JuiceheaD & Oskana Popstar have inserted more of a pop punk feeling then we’re used to hearing from Fugazi covers.  This is going to be out on 7inch vinyl this weekend for Record Store Day.

Sounds Like: Pop Punk Fugazi

Artist: Moonface

Album: With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery

Probably my favorite thing that came in this week, Moonface’s latest album is pretty hard describe. It reminds me a lot of the darker New Wave stuff from the 80’s but updated somehow. A little Echo and The Bunnymen, a little Bowie maybe even a little Gary Numan. Awesome stuff.

Sounds Like: New New Wave

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about Record Store Day. Happening this Saturday, April 21 and there will be a ton of exclusive records at a ton of independent record shops in your area. I will be out there hunting a little bit and have already made my list up. Here’s what I think everyone should look for.

Mastadon/Feist – Commotion/Black Tongue 7”

Yes you read that correctly:  a double a-side single with Mastadon covering Commotion and Feist covering Black Tongue. How awesome is that?

Gorillaz (feat. Andre 3000 and James Murphy) – "Do Ya Thing "10”

Possibly the last thing we’ll hear from the Gorillaz in a while.

Iggy and The Stooges – "All Tomorrow’s Parties" 12” Picture Disc

And I have to include Iggy himself because he’s this year’s Record Store Day Ambassador.  And he’s just plain cool.

What about you, my find friends? Is there any music I should be reviewing? What about Record Store Day releases? What else should people be hunting for? Let us know in the comments below.
