The Man Who Only Remembered Music

His name is Jake.  He was in a bad car crash which left him with a severe brain injury that wiped away his memories and experiences except for one thing:  music.  From a story in the National Post:

The car accident had put me in a coma. I was under for about a week. After I woke up, my ability to name or recognize things was gone. Everything on Earth or in the skies or across the water was new. I would have called my life a nightmare or a bad trip, had I known what those things were. But I didn’t. Life, as I’d known it, had been totally and completely erased.

In the hospital, I laid there helplessly, waiting for something to change. Then, one day, the sad and weary old people — the ones who turned out to be my parents — walked over to a table and touched what looked like a strange silver object. All of a sudden, the object started making sounds. At first, I was alarmed, and then, suddenly, I began to sing along: “There’s one thing I’ll never forget. You gotta pay your dues before you pay the rent.” It was a song by Pavement. It sounded so good, so familiar. I didn’t know what a car was or what the days of the week were or how you turned on a television. But I knew this song. This crazy song.
