Weekly Music Sales Report: 09 May 2012

There are two big debuts on the album chart this week, allowing year-to-date pacing of Canadian recorded music sales to run at +4% from 2011.  Again, most of the good news comes in the digital realm as CD sales are down 7% from last year.  Meanwhile, digital sales are up 31%.

Carrie Underwood debuts at #1 on the album charts with 17,000 copies of Blown Away.  She's followed by Norah Jones and Little Broken Hearts at #2 with 13,000 copies.  Also new in the Top Ten is B.O.B.'s Strange Clouds (4,000 copies) and Marilyn Manson's Born Villains at #8.

And yes, the Beastie Boys got a bump with Licensed to Ill seeing the greatest sales increase.

Over in the US, there are four new albums in the top five:  Carrie Underwood (267,000 copies), Norah Jones (110,000), a new Now compilation (95,000) and B.O.B.  Manson made it into the top ten wtih the Avengers soundtrack clocking in at #11.

Meanwhile, look at the #18 position:  Beastie Boys and Licensed to Ill.

And the #1 digital download?  Still Gotye with another 347,000 sales.
