Still More Reissued English Beat

Earlier this month, a five-disc English Beat collection appeared in stores.  Now there's more in the form of a CD/DVD set recorded back in 1983 when the band played the second US Festival.

Never heard of those gigs?  Back in 1982 and 1983, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak took a whack of his Apple II profits and staged two massive gigs in San Bernadino, California.  Great concept, good execution, lousy business. Woz lost an estimated $20 million over those two years.

The English Beat played the first day of the second year.  Saturday, May 28, 1983 was designated New Wave Day.  The line-up featured the Beat, INXS, Men at Work, Stray Cats, A Flock of Seaguals, Oingo Boing, Wall of Voodoo, Divinyls and The Clash (the last-ever appearance of Mick Jones with the band, by the way).

Every second of both US Festivals were filmed, although little of this material has ever been made widely available.  This Beat collection fills in at least one gap.

Watch for this set to appear in stores on July 10.
