Melvins to Attempt World Record for Fastest US Tour? Uh, Hold On, Buzz

God bless the Melvins for thinking big.  They've announced that they want to become the first band to tour the full United States in 51 days.  This involves playing shows in every US state (including Alaska and Hawaii) plus DC.  No days off.  And it all starts in Anchorage, Alaska on September 5.

"No one has ever done this before!" people are screaming.  "You rock, Melvins!"

Yes, they do.  Not to take anything away from their ambitions, but this has already been done before.

Back in 1980, George Thorogood and the Destroyers made a bold promise:  they were going to play 50 shows in all 50 US states in 50 days.  They started in Honolulu on October 23 and finished in Pasadena, California, on December 11.  Not only did they hit all 50 states, but they played DC and Maryland in the same day, completing 51 shows in 50 days.  The 50-50 Tour is now the stuff of legend.  See?
