The Alphabetical Archive for 21 July 2012: Gang of Four

Gang of Four was part punk, part funk (well, the English sort) and had a massive influence on a young band called the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  In fact, guitarist Andy Gill produced an album for the Chili Peppers. (Unfortunately, it didn't turn out well.  Legend has it that for his troubles, he received a pizza box with a turd in it.)

"Damaged Goods" was the band's first single from 1978.  Love the highly-compressed miking technique that adds so much tension.

Going through my record collection, one letter at a time. We'll get to H tomorrow.
