Heading to New York? Take the Beastie Boys Walking Tour

On a visit to New York a number of years ago, I took something called the Punk Rock Walk.  It was a walking tour of lower Manhattan that started at Joey Ramone's apartment building and ended at CBGB. It was fascinating.

I've since taken several more walking tours, including a Beatles walk in London.  You really get a feel for history with these things.

Now there's a Beastie Boys walk.  The first one goes Saturday, the day before Adam Yauch's birthday.  I'm hoping that if it all goes well, this will become a regular thing.

Details here.

Myself and a few of my friends were looking forward to doing this tour being life long beastie fans but after checking out their Beastie Boys Message Boards we have decided against it.  Not just because they fear (their boards actually say this) anyone who is NOT a member of their forum. Maybe they think we are not a good enough fans to mingle with them but for other reasons as follows.

One of the main or head members of the group does nothing but proclaim that she is continuously (mspacman) doing worldly good deeds in Adam Yauch's name.  She writes up these ridiculously long winded post to tell the world what she has done, will do, had someone else do ...  All I see when I have read those is LOOK AT ME.  Then you have a (whomoi) character that you need a bottle of wine and an hour to figure out WHAT she is trying to say with every most she makes.  One minute she is a feminist the next she is criticizing someone else for being one.  I think she just likes to try and sound intelligent but she makes no sense. Just say what you mean! I am guessing an insecure person may need a platform such as an internet forum to feel superior but at least try and make a little bit of sense.

Kids talk about cyber bullying? Here's a fine example of adults doing the same. I have read a few situations on there the last few days where they have berated & ganged up on a few individuals.  It appears to have been over the length of time these people have been members of their elite board.

I would like to think that the beastie boys et al, have no idea any of this goes on.  But ignorance should not be an excuse to promote stupidity.

My point here is that no, me and my friends will not intrude on their adventure in our fine city for this great citizen this weekend.  I would appreciate however if they would come, see what they need to, and be on their way.

"Not just because they fear (their boards actually say this) anyone who is NOT a member of their forum."

Of course. This is why they created a FB page. To keep it an insular event.

Wait. No, that would show the opposite intent. From reading through the threads, it looks like they were more concerned about press people showing up and gawking at the fans.

Checking the other posts, it looks like the other person is posting daily updates on the charities that OTHER people have donated to in honor of Yauch.

You're an odd person. Check your head. Also, the PDF of the walking tour is easily accessible on the public FB page for the walk, so anyone at any time can print it and walk it with their friends. What a buncha jerks, those fans, just doing something nice for people to enjoy, and setting up a charity project so fans can contribute and feel a little better for doing something in Adam Yauch's honor.

It's a good thing you came by and crapped on them for it. That'll learn 'em for being so, I dunno, organized, helpful, charitable, and stuff.

Maybe next time you can organize all this stuff and show them how it's done!

Sounds like Miss Paperdali is a member of said community. While the Beastie Boys Message Board member (MsPacman) may be streaming moment by moment said donations to various charities, there is like the commentor stated, an element of " LOOK AT ME" there.

I believe the PDF documents they link to on their fan Facebook page, are basically meant for their members to print or anyone joining their tour.

I know a little inside scoop and the remaining members of the band did not make an appearance there based on certain attitudes of the fans that do post on said forum.

They may want to reexamine themselves a bit or make their community private. Sounds like that is the desired intent here.

Also a life long Beastie fan here. The Beastie Boys do not promote these kinds of attitudes. Not sure where these group came from?.
