The War Against "Canned Music"

Recorded music scared the hell out of musicians.  "If people can listen to records instead of live performances, thousands of people will be put out of work!"

This was a real controversy in the late 1920s and early 1930s when the idea of records and record players really began to explode.

A huge issue was music in movie theatres.  With talkies, there was no more need for musical accompaniments.  Hence the formation of the Music Defense League by the American Federation of Musicians.

It was war on recorded music. "The robots cannot be permitted to win!"  The awesome story here.

History repeats itself. Why always the uproar? Because new technology allows it to be done
