Goodbye, Ping. Get Lost.

The public has spoken.  Ping is on death row.  Execution is scheduled for September 30.

Ping never really caught on as an iTunes feature.  It was a badly designed social media platform that didn't integrate with Facebook or Twitter.  Plus you couldn't share songs.  It was nothing more than a place to see what your friends and connections bought on iTunes.  Useless.

This isn't a surprise.  Apple CEO Tim Cook wasn't a fan and made it rather clear back in June when he said "I think the customer voted and said this isn’t something I want to put a lot of energy into."  And he's right when he says that Apple doesn't need a social network.  Let other people take care of that.

Good move, Apple. Be like Google and keep trying new stuff--but also admit when something isn't working. Then kill it.

Tell Apple to "be like Google" and boy will they take it personally ;)
