Rob Zombie on his New Movie, The Lords of Salem

I've been a fan since White Zombie began release their brand of horror-core back in the 90s.  I've always enjoyed Rob's move to movies.  Biff Bam Pop talks to Mr. Zombie about his sixth film.  First, though, a taste.

Andy Burns: I was at the premier of Lords of Salem in Toronto and as a guy that’s a big fan of yours, I was pretty eager to see what you’d come up with. So I’m wondering, when your film is screened for the first time, do you get excited at all? I always kind of view you as a pretty laid back guy. Do you get nervous?

Rob Zombie: I don’t get sort of anything. I don’t get excited or anything. I mean, I want people to see it, obviously. I wouldn’t make it if I didn’t. But I don’t get excited like, I can’t wait to show it. And I don’t really get nervous, like “oh, what if people don’t like it”. You just kind of show it and see where it goes.

Win Record Store Day Stuff with My Newsletter

The first record I ever bought with my own money was purchased at a Robinson's, a sort of one-room department store chain found in small-town Canada.  I walked in with a crisp five dollar bill and a little bit of change--a usurious and ridiculous amount, according to my mother--and walked out with a fresh copy of Elton John's Greatest Hits.  I still have that record--and I've been patronizing record stores ever since.  Even today.

Saturday is Record Store Day.  And although I'll be out in Victoria at the invitation of The Zone 91-3 for a special evening event, I plan to check out all four of the participating indie record stores in the city (full list here).

This brings me to Last Shop Standing, a book about the rise and fall and rise of the indie record store in the UK. There's also a documentary based on the book.  I have a couple of these packages to give away next weekend. All you have to do to be eligible is sign up for my daily newsletter.  If you're already on the mailing list, you're already in the draw.

It's a good newsletter, too.  Ten cool music stories in your inbox by 10am ET seven days a week.  No intrusive questions, no spam.  Drop out anytime (and I won't try to take that personally).

Damn, But the Foos' Taylor Hawkins Makes a Convincing Iggy Pop

From this photo, anyway.  He could use a few more scars and a lot more needle track marks, but on the whole, this is good casting. Actress Malin Akerman as Deborah Harry? Not so much.  In my opinion, anyway

This is a stlll from the upcoming movie about CBGB.  .

Read more about the movie at The NME.

The Hipsters Already Hate the Upcoming CBGB Movie...

...and it won't be out for months.  I guess they just want to get on record early.  From The Village Voice:

If you're the type of cynical punk asshole who thinks the movie about CBGB can't be anything but terrible, well GOOD NEWS, the movie's poster essentially proves you right. It was released today on the CBGB movie Facebook page, which has exclusive clips that also prove you right. Still, you'd be wise not to bet money against all the big name stars in this thing: Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman, Freddy Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Rupert Grint, Richard Deklerk, Mickey Sumner, and Stana Katic. All that AND Foo Fighter drummer Taylor Hawkins? There. There. You feel better now.

More hate can be found here.  And then there's this video.  Oh, dear.
