Uh-Oh: Trouble in Pixies Land

The Pixies were always a fragile construct.  The fact that they lasted almost ten years into their reunion could be interpreted as proof of the existence of God.  But even God can't hold this band together.

We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.

Can We Please Get "Happy Birthday" into the Public Domain?

Have you ever noticed that whenever there's a scene involving someone's birthday in a TV show or movie that almost no one ever sings "Happy Birthday?"  It's usually something like "He's a Jolly Good Fellow" or something similar.

Or what about those nights when you're sitting in a restaurant and the wait staff brings out a flaming cake to someone at the next table and then shout-sings some kind of birthday greeting?  What's wrong with "Happy Birthday?"

A lot, actually.

Interesting Stat About New Queens of the Stone Age Album

If you pay attention to record sales charts, you'll know that the new Queens of the Stone Age album, ...Like Clockwork, debuted at #1 in the US with first-week sales of 91,000 copies.

Of that number, a full 13%--about 12,000--were sold on vinyl.

The album debuted at #2 in Canada (behind City and Colour's The Hurry and the Harm) with 11,000 units. No word on how many of those were on vinyl.

Wikileaks Dude's Next Release? A Single. As in a Song.

As Julian Assange whiles away the days locked in an Ecuadorian embassy fighting extradition by everyone, he's turned to music.

Assange has made friends wtih Redidente, the frontman for Calle 13, a politically active band that has won a number of Latin Grammy awards.

Nothing has been recorded yet--well, as far as we know--but Redidente has has fans to tweet ideas for a collabortation using the the hashtag #JulianAssangeCalle13.  There's also a Soundcloud page where you can contribute.
